In American colleges and universities the position of business officer generally came into being in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers held its first meeting in November 1920 at Johns Hopkins University. Sixteen institutions came together to associate with other members of their guild, to discuss their common problems and to seek out better ways to do the things that had to be done. Today our membership consists of 630 institutions of higher education and we continue to come together to share, network and provide professional development. Average attendance at our spring Annual Workshop and our fall Annual Meeting is more than 500 attendees. We also serve over 1000 business officers through our locally sponsored one day drive in workshops.
