Lynne Schaefer

Emerita Vice President Finance & Administration, University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC)

Lynne Schaefer served as the chief business officer at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) from 2005 until her retirement in 2022. In that role, she was responsible for all aspects of financial management for annual operations exceeding $450 million. She also provided leadership for facilities management, human resources, environmental safety and health, dining services, the bookstore, campus police, and general business services.

Ms. Schaefer also previously served as Vice President for Finance and Administration at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, and as Budget Director and Vice President for Administrative Services at Wayne State University in Detroit. Ms. Schaefer began her career in state government in Michigan, and worked in the Governor’s Office, Depts. of Management and Budget and Treasury, and as President of the Michigan Education Trust.

She holds an MBA in Finance from Wayne State University and a BA from Michigan State University. Following her retirement from UMBC, Ms. Schaefer served as interim President and CEO of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) from September 2022 through May 2023. She previously served as Board Chair of NACUBO and EACUBO. She currently holds the position of Program Advisor to the NACUBO Fellows Program.
