Matt Gruber

Senior Vice President Finance and Administration, Wentworth Institute of Technology

Matthew Gruber is a strategic executive with over 20 years of leadership experience in higher education, real estate, and institutional operations. As Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration at Wentworth Institute of Technology, he serves as the university’s Chief Operating and Financial Officer, overseeing a $150M budget and a 38-acre urban campus in Boston.

Matt is currently leading the development of a transformative public-private partnership to construct a 964-bed, 220,000-square-foot residence hall—managing entitlements, financing, and construction strategy. He also implemented a new enterprise-wide financial and HRIS system, introduced a multi-year strategic and financial planning framework, and restructured administrative leadership to enhance operational efficiency and employee engagement.

Prior to Wentworth, Matt held senior roles at Harvard Law School and Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, where he directed large-scale capital projects, real estate redevelopment, and financial strategy. His private sector experience includes serving as CFO/COO at Sagamore Capital Management, where he oversaw a $250M+ portfolio and led cross-functional operational improvements across multiple portfolio companies.

Matt has a BA in Political Science from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA, as well as a J.D. with a concentration in labor and employment law from American University – Washington College of Law, Washington, DC. In addition, Matt studied at the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland.

Matt currently sits and advises on the Boards of non-profit organizations:

  • West Roxbury Main Streets (President Emeritus): a nonprofit organization headquartered in West Roxbury, MA that pursues four main goals: enhancing the physical appearance of the West Roxbury commercial district; improving its economic stability; marketing its features and benefits; and promoting community involvement among its business and residential membership base.
