Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Background

The Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers (EACUBO) has established diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and the elimination of inequitable outcomes based on any bias as critical priorities. In doing so, EACUBO is committed to improving its performance and focus on DEI in all aspects, including but not limited to culture, programs, practices, policies, and people.

Statements of Position

The Board confirmed that equity and fairness, education and discernment, and collegiality and mutual support are at the heart of EACUBO and its ethos. EACUBO will continue to activate these core values and ethos into positive movement through action-oriented steps.

Diverse communities are more resilient, creative, and effective. The role of the business officer on a college or university campus should be as an important contributor in making each institution, and our broader society, more inclusive, welcoming, and equitable. EACUBO strives to be a strong voice and resource supporting business officers in this aspect of the work.

Our Commitment to the Following, Specified Action Steps

EACUBO recognizes that long-term and lasting progress will require time, sustained effort, and the cumulative impact of incremental and individual actions. Each year, EACUBO will establish objectives for making measurable progress related to work toward being a bias-free association and advancing DEI. EACUBO will endeavor to help the individual college and university business officer build or expand their capabilities needed to engender diversity, equity, and inclusion in their organizations and institutions.

Reporting and Being Accountable

For the foreseeable future or as otherwise decided by the Board, EACUBO will annually report to the membership the material aspects of its work related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and its efforts related to modeling the statements outlined herein.

Initial steps for 2021:

  1. EACUBO will integrate an intentional DEI focus into every member’s experience.
  2. EACUBO, through its current and future programming and professional development initiatives, will equip current and future business officers to serve and lead a more diverse community of business officers across the region and, in particular, to serve at more senior business officer positions.
  3. EACUBO will review its internal policies, structures, and practices and eliminate any and all aspects of bias, implicit or otherwise, that can influence equitable outcomes.
  4. EACUBO will include diverse representation on the Board, within the leadership, volunteers, faculty, speakers, staff, business partners, and across all levels of engagement.
